Our Mission


The Delaware Society of Health-System Pharmacists was established:
  1. To advance public health by promoting the professional interests of pharmacists practicing in hospitals and other organized health-care settings through:
    • Fostering pharmaceutical services aimed at drug-use control and rational drug therapy.
    • Developing professional standards for pharmaceutical services.
    • Fostering an adequate supply of well-trained, competent pharmacists and associated personnel.
    • Developing and conducting programs for maintaining and improving the competence of pharmacists and associated personnel.
    • Disseminating information about pharmaceutical services and rational drug use.
    • Improving communication among pharmacists, other members of the health-care industry, and the public.
    • Promoting research in the health and pharmaceutical sciences and in pharmaceutical services.
    • Promoting the economic welfare of pharmacists and associated personnel.
  2. To foster rational drug use in society such as through advocating appropriate public policies toward that end.
  3. To pursue any other lawful activity that may be authorized by DSHP's Board of Directors.

Award Nominations

Any DSHP member can submit a nomination and candidates need not be DSHP members to be nominated.

Pharmacist of the Year
The Society's most prestigious award honors a health system pharmacist practicing in Delaware who has displayed outstanding qualities of leadership, initiative and incentive to dedication to the ideals of the practice of pharmacy.

Nomination Information:
Any member of DSHP may submit the name of the nominee to the DSHP President. Names may be submitted until the designated due date. The candidate's curriculum vitae and/or any other pertinent information must accompany the letter of nomination. Candidates need not be members of DSHP in order to be nominated for the award. Anonymous nominations will not be considered.

Technician Award
This award honors a pharmacy technician practicing in the health system who has made significant contributions to pharmacy technician practice and the community. The pharmacy technician must show leadership, dedication and enthusiasm for advancing the role of the pharmacy technician in the health system.

Nomination Information:
Any member of DSHP may submit the name of the nominee to the DSHP President. A letter of nomination may be submitted until the designated due date. Candidates must be employed as a pharmacy technician in a health system in DE but need not be a member of DHSP to be eligible.

Pharmacy Student Scholarship Award

DSHP will award $1000, plus one year membership to a worthy recipient at the Annual Spring Banquet held in April.

    The recipient must:
  • Be enrolled in the professional component of a Doctor of Pharmacy degree program at an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Be a permanent resident of Delaware OR a registered intern in Delaware.
  • Submit a complete scholarship application, official transcript, letter describing pharmacy goals, and financial needs by Feburary 28, 2013.
